My name is Debby van de Seijp-Warner, I am a mixed media collage artist, born and raised in San Nicolas, Aruba. I am a wife, a mother of five, and a grandmother of six (and counting 😊). My work explores emotion, resilience, identity, and memory, with a focus on the silences surrounding the history of the transatlantic slave trade and its lasting impact.
Using imagery and archival materials, I layer fragments of past and present to construct new narratives. Cutting and layering are not just the techniques I use, it’s a reflection of the fragmentation of identity and the resilience required to rebuild.
Growing up in San Nicolas, this history was rarely spoken about, yet its legacy lived on through the values of strength, patience, and endurance passed down to me.
Through my work, I seek to make the unseen visible and to honor a history that deserves its place within Aruba’s story.
